What are the auspicious wedding dates in November and December 2026?
Hindu weddings are often held on a vivah muhurat, a day and time when the panchang (lunar day, nakshatra and yoga) is considered good for marriage. Drik Panchang's 2026 marriage list (calculated for New Delhi) gives these dates after Diwali:
| Date | Nakshatra | Muhurat (New Delhi time) |
|---|---|---|
| Sat, Nov 21, 2026 | Revati | 6:48 AM to 12:08 AM (Nov 22) |
| Tue, Nov 24, 2026 | Rohini | 11:25 PM to 6:52 AM (Nov 25) |
| Wed, Nov 25, 2026 | Rohini, Mrigashira | All day to 6:52 AM (Nov 26) |
| Thu, Nov 26, 2026 | Mrigashira | 6:52 AM to 5:47 PM |
| Wed, Dec 2, 2026 | Uttara Phalguni | 10:32 AM to 6:58 AM (Dec 3) |
| Thu, Dec 3, 2026 | Uttara Phalguni, Hasta | 6:58 AM to 10:53 AM; 11:03 PM to 6:59 AM (Dec 4) |
| Fri, Dec 4, 2026 | Hasta | 6:59 AM to 10:22 AM |
| Sat, Dec 5, 2026 | Swati | 11:48 AM to 7:00 AM (Dec 6) |
| Sun, Dec 6, 2026 | Swati | 7:00 AM to 7:42 AM |
| Fri, Dec 11, 2026 | Uttara Ashadha | 3:04 AM to 7:04 AM (Dec 12) |
| Sat, Dec 12, 2026 | Uttara Ashadha | 7:04 AM to 3:27 AM (Dec 13) |
Two important points. First, these times are for India. In Canada the clock times, and sometimes the dates, are different, so your pandit will work out the local muhurat. Second, Drik Panchang notes that this list checks only the panchang. A full muhurat also checks the lagna and the couple's horoscopes. Treat the list as a starting point for booking a hall, not the final word.
When is wedding season in 2027?
After a break from mid-December to mid-January, the season picks up again. Drik Panchang's 2027 marriage list (New Delhi) gives these dates for January to March 2027:
| Month | Vivah muhurat dates (New Delhi) |
|---|---|
| January 2027 | Jan 15, 18, 19, 20, 24, 26, 27, 30 and 31 |
| February 2027 | Feb 2, 3, 9, 10, 11, 14, 15, 21, 22, 25, 26, 27 and 28 |
| March 2027 | Mar 1, 2, 3, 4, 9, 10 and 14 |
Some of these windows are short or start late at night, so check the exact times on Drik Panchang (select 2027). Its list then pauses from mid-March to mid-April, a solar month it marks as prohibited for weddings, and resumes on April 18, 2027. Panchang rules rule out some periods every year, so the gaps move from year to year. Many Canadian families also book around long weekends and halls: popular banquet halls can book up early for Saturdays in the season. If your date is fixed by muhurat, book the hall first, then the priest, caterer and jeweller.
Sikh Anand Karaj ceremonies, Muslim nikahs and Christian weddings follow their own customs and are not tied to this list.
What gold is bought for a South Asian wedding?
Traditions differ by region and family, but wedding gold often includes:
- The bridal set: necklace, earrings, maang tikka and bangles. Usually 22K.
- Mangalsutra or thali, the marriage necklace in many Hindu communities.
- Rings for the engagement and for both partners. Often 18K or 14K with stones, because they are worn every day.
- Gold coins, given to the couple by relatives, or used in rituals.
- Gifts to family: small pieces for the groom's or bride's mother, sisters and close relatives.
A lot of wedding gold stays in the family for decades. So it is worth thinking about what will be worn, and what is really savings. Heavy 22K sets are worn a few times. Coins and plain bangles are easier to resell or remake later. Our guide on jewellery vs investment gold compares the two.
How do you budget for wedding gold?
- Set a budget by weight. Decide how many grams (or tolas; 1 tola = 11.6638 g) you want across all pieces. Weight is easier to compare than "a set" or "a piece".
- Price it at today's rate. For example, if 22K gold is $137 a gram, 100 g of 22K is about $13,700 of gold before making charges. Check the gold price by karat for the live number.
- Add making charges. These can be a large share of a heavy design. Ask every store for them as a separate line.
- Spread the buying. Some families buy a little each month, or on Dhanteras and Akshaya Tritiya, instead of all at once. This averages the price. Our gold savings planner helps you plan it.
- Plan for travel. If the wedding is in India or you bring gold back, check the rules first: see carrying gold to India and bringing gold jewellery into Canada.
Gold prices can go down as well as up. Past prices don't predict future prices.
Is gold a good wedding gift?
Yes. A gold coin or a small piece of jewellery is one of the most common wedding gifts in South Asian families. Simple ideas:
- A 5 g or 10 g 24K coin in a gift box
- Small 22K earrings or a pendant for the bride
- A gold coin for the groom, or cufflinks
- A silver set if the budget is smaller (see the silver price)
Ask the store for a receipt that shows the karat and weight, so the couple can exchange or resell it later if they wish. If you only want to give the value of gold, RemitBee Gold is a new option coming in early 2027: 24K gold from $10 at the live price, with one 0.5% fee shown before you confirm (gold.remitbee.com).
How do you buy wedding jewellery smart?
22K or 24K?
24K gold is 99.9% pure. It is soft, so it is used mostly for coins and bars. 22K gold is 91.6% pure (often stamped 916). It is a little harder, so most South Asian jewellery is 22K. 18K is 75% gold and 14K is 58.5%. For the same weight, a higher karat has more gold in it, so it costs more. Use our gold price by karat page to compare.
Making charges
Jewellery costs more than the gold inside it. Stores add a making charge (also called a labour or design charge). Some charge a percentage of the gold value. Others charge a set amount per gram. Ask for the gold weight, the karat and the making charge as separate lines on the bill. Then you can compare stores. Our jewellery markup calculator shows how much you pay above the gold value.
Buy-back and exchange
Ask the store, before you pay, what it pays if you sell or exchange the piece later. Many stores deduct the making charge, and some deduct more. Get the policy in writing on the receipt. Coins and bars usually lose less on resale than detailed jewellery.
Check the stamp
In Canada, a quality mark (like 22K or 916) is not required. But if a store puts one on, it must be truthful and come with a Canadian trademark, under the Precious Metals Marking Act (as of October 2026). Keep your receipt with the karat, weight and store name.
