IRCC fees for permanent residence
These are IRCC’s fees as of October 5, 2026. You pay them online when you submit your application.
| Fee | Express Entry or PNP | Spouse sponsorship |
|---|---|---|
| Principal applicant (processing fee) | $990 | $660 (includes the $75 sponsorship fee) |
| Right of permanent residence fee (RPRF) | $600 | $600 |
| Spouse or partner coming with you | $990 + $600 RPRF | Not applicable |
| Each dependent child | $270 | $180 |
| Biometrics | $85 per person, or $170 for a family applying together | |
The RPRF is paid by the principal applicant and an accompanying spouse. Dependent children do not pay it. You can pay the RPRF when you apply or later, when IRCC asks.
The costs that are not IRCC fees
- Language tests. IELTS General Training, CELPIP-General, PTE Core, TEF Canada and TCF Canada are accepted. Prices depend on the test and the country. Many people take a test more than once to raise their score.
- Educational credential assessment (ECA). Needed for points for foreign education. See our ECA cost calculator.
- Medical exam. Only an IRCC panel physician can do it. You pay the doctor directly, and prices vary by country.
- Police certificates. One from each country where you lived 6 months or more since age 18. Each government sets its own fee.
- Translations. Any document not in English or French needs a certified translation.
- Provincial fee. Some provinces charge an application fee for a nomination.
How the calculator counts
- It adds IRCC’s processing fee for each person and the RPRF for each adult.
- It adds biometrics: $85 for one person or $170 for two or more, unless you gave biometrics in the last 10 years.
- For Express Entry and PNP, it adds one ECA report per person you choose, at the selected organization’s listed price (WES includes delivery and 13% HST).
- It adds your own amounts for tests, medicals, police certificates and translations. We do not guess these prices.
Worked example: a couple with one child
A couple applies through Express Entry with one child. Both have WES assessments, and none of them has given biometrics before.
- Processing fees: $990 × 2 + $270 = $2,250
- RPRF: $600 × 2 = $1,200
- Biometrics (family): $170
- Government fees: $3,620
- Two WES ECAs: about $314 each, or $628
Before tests, medicals and police certificates, they will spend about $4,248. Add your own quotes in the calculator to see the full picture.
Do not forget settlement funds
Settlement funds are not a fee. You keep the money. But Federal Skilled Worker and Federal Skilled Trades applicants without a valid job offer must show it in the bank. For a family of three, that is $23,360. Check your amount with the Express Entry proof of funds calculator, and plan your first months with the first 90 days budget.
