How to read these numbers.

  • An asylum claim is a request for protection; it is not a decision. Decisions are made by the Immigration and Refugee Board and are not in this dataset.
  • Resettled refugees are selected abroad and arrive as permanent residents. Protected persons made a claim in Canada and were accepted.
  • Country of citizenship describes the person, not why they left. We do not rank or compare communities.

About this data. Contains information licensed under the Open Government Licence – Canada. IRCC rounds every figure to the nearest 5 and suppresses values from 0 to 5; we count suppressed cells as zero, so totals here can be slightly below IRCC’s published totals. “Rounded, not for calculations.” Not an official IRCC publication. These pages describe what happened, using official statistics. They do not predict policy, estimate anyone’s chances, or rank communities. See methods and definitions.
