Send money from Canada to India.
How to get more Indian rupees to your family: payout options, the details you’ll need, and how to compare the real cost of a transfer.
$300 ≈ 20,310 INR
How your family can receive money in India.
Bank deposit
The most common option. Most Indian banks receive transfers the same or next business day with some providers.
UPI
Some providers can pay directly to a UPI ID.
Cash pickup
Less common for India; bank deposit is usually cheaper.
Details to get from your family.
Having these right is the easiest way to avoid delays and rejected transfers.
- Full name exactly as on the bank account
- Bank account number
- IFSC code of the branch
- Bank name and city
- Recipient’s phone number (some providers)
Four steps.
Compare providers
Look at what arrives in INR, including the exchange-rate markup, not just the fee.
Add your recipient
Enter their details exactly as they appear on their account or ID.
Pay
Interac e-Transfer, debit or bank transfer are common. Card payments can cost more.
Track it
Share the reference number with your family, and keep your receipt.
Get more to your family.
Sending to your own account?
Money you send to your own NRE account can be repatriated freely later; NRO accounts have yearly limits. Ask your bank which suits you.
Larger, less frequent transfers
Flat fees hurt small transfers most. If your budget allows, send monthly rather than weekly.
Gifts to family
Money received from close relatives is generally not taxed in India, but check with a tax professional for large amounts.

Common questions.
What is an IFSC code?
The Indian Financial System Code is an 11-character code that identifies a bank branch. It’s printed on cheques and bank statements, and banks list it online.
Can I send to a UPI ID?
Some Canadian transfer providers support UPI payouts. Check before you send; bank deposit is supported by almost all.
How do I know a provider is safe?
Use a provider registered with FINTRAC, Canada’s financial intelligence agency, and check reviews. Never send money to someone you’ve only met online.
Is there a limit on how much I can send?
Providers set their own limits and will ask for more verification for larger amounts. Transfers of CAD 10,000 or more are reported to FINTRAC as required by law; that’s routine.
