International price vs local rate.

International price in NPR

The world gold price converted at today’s exchange rate. That’s what this page shows. It’s the fairest way to compare Nepal with Canada.

Typical local market rate

Nepal’s market rate is announced daily by the gold and silver dealers’ federation and includes import costs, so it is higher than the international price converted to rupees. We don’t show a local market rate because we don’t have a licensed feed for it.

FAQ

Common questions.

What is the gold rate in Nepal today?

At the international price, 24K gold is Rs 2,27,909 per tola (11.66 g) and 22K is Rs 2,08,765 (October 23, 2026, 11:50 pm ET). The local market rate quoted by jewellers is usually different; see “International price vs local rate” on this page.

How much gold can I carry to Nepal from Canada?
  • Jewellery: Foreign passengers may bring used gold ornaments up to 25 grams for men and 50 grams for women, and silver ornaments up to 100 grams, duty-free. News reports say returning Nepali workers have the same 25 g / 50 g limits (secondary source).
  • Bars and coins: Not allowed for foreign passengers. Gold in forms other than ornaments (coins, biscuits, pieces) is seized and confiscated, with a fine equal to its value (Embassy of India, Kathmandu notice, 2019). Rules for Nepali returnees on raw gold have changed over time; check with Nepal Customs.
  • Declaring: Declare at the red channel if you carry goods above your concession. Gold spiral rings, bangles or chains made in ordinary ornament shapes without using chemicals are not accepted as ornaments.

Rules as of 2026-10-24; check the official customs page before you travel. Carry limit checker.

Is gold cheaper in Nepal than in Canada?

Converted at today’s exchange rate, the international price is the same: $179.81 per gram of 24K in Canada. The difference comes from local duty, tax and dealer or making charges. See Is gold cheaper in Dubai, India or Canada?

Why is the local rate in Nepal different from the world price?

Nepal’s market rate is announced daily by the gold and silver dealers’ federation and includes import costs, so it is higher than the international price converted to rupees.
