International price vs local rate.

International price in BDT

The world gold price converted at today’s exchange rate. That’s what this page shows. It’s the fairest way to compare Bangladesh with Canada.

Typical local market rate

Bangladesh’s market rate per vori is set by the jewellers’ association and includes local costs, so it differs from the international price converted to taka. We don’t show a local market rate because we don’t have a licensed feed for it.

How much gold can I carry to Bangladesh from Canada?
  • Jewellery: Up to 100 grams of gold ornaments (and 200 grams of silver ornaments) duty-free, with no more than 12 pieces of one type (Baggage Rules 2025, SRO 261, 2 June 2025). Press reports say the gold allowance is once a year.
  • Bars and coins: One gold bar of up to 117 grams (10 tola / 10 vori), once a year, declared at customs, with duty of Tk 5,000 per 11.664 grams (about Tk 50,000 for 117 grams). Gold above 117 grams can be detained or confiscated.
  • Declaring: Declare a gold bar, and any jewellery above the allowance, to customs when you arrive. Carrying gold bars or ingots without declaring them is illegal and can lead to arrest. (The Schedule-1 form handed out on the plane is for unaccompanied baggage.)

Is gold cheaper in Bangladesh than in Canada?

Converted at today’s exchange rate, the international price is the same: $179.81 per gram of 24K in Canada. The difference comes from local duty, tax and dealer or making charges. See Is gold cheaper in Dubai, India or Canada?

Why is the local rate in Bangladesh different from the world price?

Bangladesh’s market rate per vori is set by the jewellers’ association and includes local costs, so it differs from the international price converted to taka.
